First Day In Honduras - July 8, 2017
As I left the comfort of my own home to go help children of Honduras in need, I felt a pang of excitement, along with some nervousness. I had never been to a developing country before in my life. When my mom and I got to the airport, we were immediately greeted by friendly faces and were given great advice from those who had gone there before. After a full day of flying, we finally reached the beautiful and breath-taking country of Honduras. The view from the plane was magnificent. I immediately felt a rush of excitement.
When we got off the plane, I was greeted by a billow of humidity and an assault of flies. I was not used to this kind of atmosphere and felt very unsure of the time to come. As we passed through security to receive our bags, one kind gentleman helped us to carry our bags outside. We tipped him. The look of happiness on his face, the gratitude and the hug he gave us will never be forgotten. That was when I realized how much little deeds mean so much to people.
When we got on to the bus to go to the hotel, I saw two-lane highways, open fields, run-down houses and buildings. It didn’t take me very long to realize how blessed I was to be able to live in the US with absolute freedom, right to an education along with given food, water, shelter, clothing, etc. From that point on, I vowed to always count my blessings and make a difference in any way I can.
